A Coastal Intimate Wedding | A Maine Sailboat Wedding in the Portland Old Port

When Emily and Dan’s inquiry hit my inbox I was SO excited! They were having their intimate wedding day with just a little over 40 of their friends and family and decided that they were going to have a Maine Sailboat Wedding on one of Portland Schooner Co.‘s vessels. I instantly loved the idea of their day being on one of Portland, Maine’s oldest & biggest schooners and being surrounded by a coastal breeze and salty sea air. Both of their families are avid sailors and a day on the water for a Maine sailboat wedding seemed like the perfect fit for them and their loved ones.

How the day unfolded for Emily & Dan’s Sailboat micro wedding

We started the day off with getting ready and detail shots at the Portland Regency Hotel in their Studio East Suite for Emily and another suite for Dan. The hotel had huge windows that were amazing for natural light. Then, Emily and Dan did a first look in a nearby park and enjoyed a few moments together before their families joined them for some photos. After family formals wrapped up, the whole crew headed down the the dock meet the rest of their guests to board the schooner for their ceremony. Once out in the Portland Harbor, the couple gathered at the bow of the vessel and had their ceremony preformed by Dan’s sister. It was an amazingly sweet ceremony with lots of joy, laughter, and happy tears. My personal favorite part of the ceremony? When they legitimately tied the knot! So cute!

Married at last!

After the ceremony, all the guests gathered with some champagne, said a few toasts, and then mingled amongst each other. The rest of the sail was spent catching up with one another, singing sailor songs, and drinking plenty of bubbly.

Once off the boat, the couple and I headed over to the Eastern Prom to grab a few more portraits of them together. Then, everyone headed to Boone’s Fish House & Oyster Room for a small reception on their second floor. The couple has the whole area to themselves and had an amazing time enjoying lot’s of fresh seafood, good drink, lively music, and each other’s company.

It was such an amazing and special day and I am SO honored to have been able to capture these fleeting moment for Emily and Dan.
